Default 307SW leaking diesel...sorted

I had a problem with my 07 307SW on Thursday afternoon, it doesn't get used much but we were swapping cars around to get another one out and I noticed it was only 3/4 full. Working on the theory that it is cheaper to fill up a 1/4 of a tank than a full one. I went to fill it up. The problem was - it would only take 4 litres and the fuel was up in the neck....obviously the gauge was reading incorrectly.

Anyhow as I walked away from the car I could see that diesel was pissing out from underneath, it'd never leaked anything before so I guessed that with necking it - I had found a breather with a hole in it (still shouldn't vent to the floor of course). The only thing I could think to do, was to get in the car and take it for a spin to run some fuel off to see if it cured the problem....which fortunately it did, at least short term.

I rang my local Peugeot dealer about the problem at 4.30pm on Thursday as I am way too busy with work at the mo to tackle jobs on the car. They had the car in 1st thing Friday and fixed by early/mid afternoon.

OK, it cost me 80 quid - but I honestly have no problem with that and would have paid 5 times that if it came to it, I was just glad to get the bloody thing sorted in under 24 hours and without losing my full tank of diesel as I feared I might ( there is 60/70 quid there now of course)

Just in case anyone else hits a similar problem, it was actually the rubber seal on top of the tank that seals the fuel pump/sender unit that had failed.

The gauge itself just wanted resetting with PP and is now working as it should. You guys with more time will likely be able to sort it yourself by taking the back seat out and removing the lock ring. The seal itself is only a few quid.

For me though - it's a big up for Pete and the boys at Harratt's Peugeot in Barnsley. Sorted the job instantly and kept me updated on cost and timing all the way through ( as they generally do) oh - they even fixed my dodgy flick key (even though I'd not even mentioned it to them) for free as well.

Sod that spannering thing - I do enough of that on my motorbikes, take it to the man that can is my motto at the mo

Anyhow - my misfortune might just help one of you boys along ....
bettyswollocks and elmafudd like this.
