Default 307 HDI Turbo Issue

Evening everyone

I've got a 2004 307 2.0 HDI 136bhp and i'm experiencing an issue when the turbo is hitting about 2800rpm. under fairly strong acceleration it will accelerate as expected to 2800rpm and then the car feels almost as if the wheels are spinning, but I'm pretty confident they aren't because the traction control isnt kicking in. On further examination the turbo seems to be out of breathe and on the rare occasion its seemed to sort itself out but a gear change up usually sorts the turbo out again. I'm wondering if maybe there could be a hole in the pipe which is bringing air into the turbo causing some pressure issue but its an bit of a guess.

My work colleague has a code reader and when we hooked it up it came back with just the one code - P1198 pump rotor control underfueling. Not sure if this could be related?

Cheers for any help

paul

Hi Paul,
It sounds to me your clutch is slipping under heavy acceleration.
Are you still on your original clutch/dmf...??
what milage has your 307 done..??
With any fuel problems its always best to start with replacing the fuel filter first...
Ron.

there's 82k on the clock and its probably on the original clutch. don't have very much paper work on it and i've only done 6k but think its prob best to assume its the original. Fuel filter was changed in May.

One thing I'm not sure of in my head trying to link a slipping clutch to the turbo having issues at 2800rpm only under heavy acceleration is that when its maxing at 2800rpm would you not expect the revs to jump up because the clutch is slipping as the engine doesnt really seem to want to go past 2800.

managed to do a little testing today. does it at different RPM in different gears. out of 6 attempts with 1st gear I managed to see it happen at 4500rpm once and started to feel it lose acceleration as if it was going to happen again once and for the latter, slipped it then into 2nd where it brought the rpm back to 3k and in wouldnt move much from 3k and was lunging forward and back a very small amount. in about a dozen test in 2nd not including what i mentioned before I saw it happen at 4k rpm once and also felt it start to go twice. can recreate it regularily in 3rd at 3k rpm with my foot to the floor. in 4th saw it happen once and feel it start to go once in about 5 attempts . not tried it in 5th or 6th as pc plod would become interested at those speeds. can accelerate up to the top end under easy to fairly strongish acceleration without seeing it happen. only when i've had the foot to the floor its happened.

thinking about the results can see how it may be the clutch. not sure if the pump underfuelling error code is a distractor to the issue in hand.

finally got round to bringing it into Peugeot and they've diagnosed it as a fuel pressure issue. Replaced the fuel filter and that seems to have solved the problem. There was an amber state on the engine noise on the health check they performed on the car and it has noticeably made acceleration smoother and quicker, it flies through the 3k mark in 3rd gear under full acceleration where previously it was having issues. They also said that there was a little too much oil sitting in the engine and drained off a little, so all in with a handbrake tightening which was deffo needed just under £150.
