307 D Turbo - poor fuel consumption

Hello,

I am new to the forum having not long owned a 2003 307 D Turbo HDI. The car has been fine with no problems at all but fuel consumption seems pretty poor. I'm struggling to get over 40mpg on a 55 mile motorway journey

. This is way behind the supposed consumption figures. Anyone any ideas what might be the problem?

Its not my heavy foot either. If I do the same journey in my other car which is a 1 yr old VW Passat TDI I'm getting almost 50mpg and its obviously a much bigger car.
