Hi all,
Dont know if i am posting this in the right place? update on my previous lengthy thread on my abs fun and games! after putting a washer behind my rear sensor to close the air gap yesterday, and my abs, braking fault and handbrake light staying on, when i started the car this morning after it sitting on the drive all nidht 100metres down the road they all went out first time in months! and stayed out just long enough for me to get excited, however 5miles or so later all back on again, this happens most mornings however until now only for a minute or two and even then just the handbrake and braking fault light, the abs one always stayed on. Therefore adding a washer to the sensor obviously helped in some way and something else is throwing it out, maybe my plates werent cleaned as thoroughly as necessary? i know no one is likely to be able to help but any advice or a good honest and affordable mechanic in the medway area would be much appreciated. Cheers. |

Could be, try cleaning them some more. and check your other sensors. get the fault read and see what it says. also would have been better if you replied to your original post instead of starting new thread. kinda hard to keep track of them once people start replying.

there needs to be a 2mm gap from the sensor to the abs ring in the bearing.
any more or less and it can cause signals that will make the ABS ECU think its faulty.

Very easy to do yourself, basically the same operation as changing a wheel with just a bit cleaning up to do. Put it on axle stands though, never rely on that piece of junk jack supplied with the car.
Once the wheel is off, remove the sensor and make sure the face is clean. Then use a thin sharp chisel to remove all the built up rust on both the fixing area for the sensor and the ring. Refit sensor making sure to get correct gap as mentioned above, refit wheel and away you go. Then feel good that you have saved mucho pennies. |
