As you will see, this is my first post on the forum. I apologise in advance if this is in the wrong place, but as the most popular area of the forum, it seems a good place to start.
I have a problem (or more correctly, several). with my Peugeot 306 (1.4LX Petrol 97 reg) Right, so here goes, there is a problem with fuel / air intake. Following problems are intermittent. car "hunts" revs sometimes stick high (even to 6K) it cuts out (then has problems starting) and can now feel a cut out (poss misfire) sometimes when driving - so you get a jerking of the car/engine. (kind of like if you have filled a diesel with petrol - but I HAVENT done this!!) Have already replaced the coil pack, and spayed the stepper motor with carb cleaner in case this was sticking. Fuel filter has also been replaced after breaking the fuel line at the stupid plastice T/F shape connector (long story) Only things to mind now are the injector unit or fuel rail. Both I beleive are quite big jobs. I also have a "whine" from the front end. I think this is either clutch thrust bearing or the diff I think - whine rises and falls with the revs of the car. Whether this is just me (sort of pyscho-seimatic) or not, but I seem also to be struggling with gears?? Any help / tips. (Only one that springs to mind with me is a box of matches) Regards and thanks in advance. |

Hi Oscar, we had same problem with a 1.4 306 and after all the head scratching and breakdowns it was traced to the green engine temperature sender front of engine. There are two types of these so if you get one take the old one for id. Cured the fault instantly. Dont know about the whine other than is the gearbox oil level ok?

I'd agree with the temp sender if the revs are hunting

Thanks both - had a quick look and located the sensor - looks easy enough to get to if I move the air intake out the way.
After the response here, I did search the net and found a similar problem to mine - the hunting, the high revving, the misfires and everything else. I was pretty certain that the problem lay in the fuel / air system somewhere - just glad I never went to the expense of starting to replace the stepper motor, or fuel rail / injectors. This one seems the cheapest place to start. Many thanks again. |
