Hi,
I am wondering if anyone here may be able to help me and offfer any advice. I am new to this site and female so I don't know a great deal about cars so I appologise in advance if any of my descriptions are rather vague! I am having a problem with my 206 1.4 Look. The car is 2003 and done 77K. I have been experiencing a knocking noise (like a loud banging) coming from the back of the car. This is a banging noise like two things banging together. This is not a scraping noice. This can be heard whilst travelling at slow speeds over any bumps or uneven road surfaces. From some investigation, it can be heard when you are driving inside the car, but not heard when you are outside the car. In the first instance, I thought this could have been the spare wheel and carrier underneath. However, we removed the entire spare wheel and carrier and this made no difference so this cause was ruled out. I found that over the period of around a few weeks, this seemed to get more persistant and the sound became louder. I then noticed that the rear driver side wheel was sitting at a slight angle (with the top of the wheel tilting slightly inwards at the top). The driving of the car is not affected and there appears to be no play in the wheel at all. We looked underneath and cant see anything obviously wrong, nothing loose etc. I have seen two mechanics about this - the first said it MAY be suspension brearings (I presume he meant trailing arm bearings?), the second mechanic was adamant that it was worn rubbers (then changed his mind after a week and said it was a slightly worn axle) (?!?!) . I have now had two different variations on this and I am getting quite frustrated. I wonder if anyone has experienced a similar problem or can offer any advice on what this problem may be? If anyone needs a further description, please let me know and I will try and describe ! Your help is very very much appreciated to try and get to the bottom of this. Thanks again anyone who can help. PuG15. |

My 306 was a little like this..... and it was a worn axle. The drivers side rear wheel was like yours, i.e. top slightly inwards, and did cause the inside of the tyre to wear unevenly. The problem lied with the connection at the end of the axle, it had worn and causing the wheel to 'tilt'. Unfortunately, I had it go twice on my 306, albeit I used secondhand parts as new prices are far more than what the car was worth. I have also known for other 206 owners to suffer the same problem, so I would have it checked. Mine failed its MOT for this problem

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated !
Im going to have it checked out by another local mechanic who has been recommended. I am hoping to sell the car as i now live in the centre of a city and no longer require a car. I want to get this problem addressed before I sell it on. Thanks again for the reply. |
