Unhappy 206 Gear Box Bearings????

Dont know if any one can rescue a damsel in distress! lol
had my 206 mot completed yesterday all ok in that area, however ive got a noise when pulling off from first gear, to me sounded like the clutch but got the guys at the garage to look at it and they say the clutch is fine it could be the gear box bearings that are causing the problem!
its all booked in to have the gearbox dropped and checked and the bearings replaced if it is that.
Any one know much about bearings? If if was them would i be experiencing any other issues? as currently its just a squeky noise when pulling off in first gear.

If its the bearings you would know as it rumbles really bad and when you are driving it would wine loud in every gear. Sounds more like a clutch problem to me with it just having a squeek when pulling away. I would take the car to a diff garage for them to look at as it sounds like they are trying to get £££££ out of you. I am a mechanic and it deffo dont sound like a gearbox problem to me

Thanks. Will get it checked out at another garage. The noise doesn't come from the gear box either it defiantly comes from the clutch.
Thanks again

Your problem sounds like the input shaft bearing on the gearbox. It's common in the small peugeot gearboxes and also affects some rovers and the early BMW mini which uses a similar gearbox. The noise I'm talking about is a low-pitched whine that only affects 1st and sometimes 2nd. It's worth doing before it wrecks the gearbox. You're gonna need a clutch as well so your going to be looking at a bill of £400+ I'm afraid.

Sorry just re-read your post. If it's just a squeal as you let out the clutch, it's just glazing on the clutch. Depends which noise it is!!

Yes it's just a squeal when you release the clutch and pull off in first gear doesn't do it all the time and not when changing gear. It just happens when pulling away in first gear, it's quite a loud squeal tho!
You think it could just be the glazing on the clutch? Is this a prob or one that could get overseen for a while?

Could be the release bearing too. Without hearing it, its hard to diagnose.
Big wheels cause the diff bearings to fail on 206's.
