205 noisy engine

Hope someone can help me out.
I have a 205 1.8 Diesel 95 plate which has suddenly got noisy.Loud rattly tappy sort of noise.It has lost some power as well.I have put a fuel cleaner in the tank.Will also change the fuel filter.The oil is black so I know that needs changing with a new filter.But if I do these things do you think it will sort the noise out? I don't want to spend too much as I bought it for £200. Could it be something major??????
Please if someone can give me any advise
