Exclamation Comm 2000 Fixed

My comm 2000 had the indicator problem, so tonight got a similiar unit with a airbag fault , took the two apart and rejoined the two good parts and at the minute it`s working great.

ps, pictures to follow.

A comm 2000 unit (faulty indicator)

Top half taken off that has airbag plugs

Circuit board removed

Indicator arm has plastic end that wears and arm becomes loose

Took another one apart that had faulty airbag and put two remaining good parts together (good indicator bottom half and good airbag top half) and it is working fine,

Thanks Ron , i hope so ,

just to add the part with the airbag plugs in it has also the ribbon that moves round your steering wheel that keeps the connection , this has "5" turning circles of 360 degrees you have to turn it fully one way or the other then turn back 2 1/2 times leaving the plugs at 12 o`clock otherwise the first turn of your steering wheel could break your ribbon leaving worse of than you started ,

hope that makes sense.

Default i had this same problem.... comm 2000 fault

The main dealers failled my m.o.t because of this fault ..... It was causing the n/s indicator to stay on. It didnt seem a big problem to me as i would just cancel out the signal. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE THE UNIT REPLACED UNDER WARRENTY. Im never taking my car to the dealers for another M.O.T again. Biggest rip offs charging over the odds, for simple items to be fixed. For example charging me £30+ for fixing my headlight pattern, (all they did was to turn the bulb abit which solved it)

old thread I know, but I'm just looking through to think of a few nice modifications to my car. and thought I'd chip in.

I found that the best way is to centre the wheels and let the thing lock itself in the central position. then after the steering wheel is in place tape the centre hub in that position so that it doesn't move.

I tried that turning it one way then the next and the cable snapped the first time I got in the car and turned the wheel.

I fixed that (that was a difficult soldering job) puting the original ribon cable back onto the black lid of the comm2000, then tried again turning back another whole turn, a few days later that snapped again.

in the end I had to buy a whole new comm2000 just to get the centre boss. it only cost me £30 off ebay. but I'd really recommend following the steps I just said above rather than turning all one way then turning back.

Make sure that the wheels are pointing forward and the steering wheel is centred, take the keys out and let the steering lock lock.

then take the air bag off, take the steering wheel off.
make sure that the boss is centred and locked with it's little plastic lock (not turnable) then put some tape over it to make sure it doesn't move at all whilst you're got it off of the car.

Default 307 comm 2000

i recently bought a 2003 307 rapier hdi with the air bag light on thinking it would be a easy problem to rectify . but having looked through some other posts i now see its not as straight forward as i first thought i've had a diagnostic performed which confirmed its the comm 2000 but i cant find one anywhere with the same peugeot serial no 96605672xt . does anyone know if it is possible to just replace it with one with a different number but the same switches lights/indicators etc.
