Peugeot 307 S 2.0 hdi 90

Hi everyone,

I hope you could give me some advice,

My peugeot 307 S HDI 2.0 2004 model has had difficulty starting in cold conditions, I took the car to a peugeot dealer for servicing and was told the glow plugs need replacing.

I took it upon myself to replace all four plugs and found two had oil on them,

once I had changed them, the car started straight away.

The following morning the same problem returned, the car took at least 10 turnovers to start.

I have changed the car battery,and the garage mentioned no other problem.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what the problem may be, as I am a novice?

The heater plugs on the dw10 engine in your car are pretty much only used for pre/post combustion burnoff rather than starting. Although they do in cold climates.
Check your fuel system first. Is the required 280bar pressure being created for starting etc.

Sounds like a slight air leak. Not bad enough to compromise starting on a warm engine, or running, but it allows enough air in after a night parked up to cause problems. Quite common on the DW10TD and the ATED.

Dave's right about the plugs. Due to the HDi's relatively low compression they aren't used at all for starting, until the ambient temperature is below the 3-4C mark.
