Default Rear Suspension Collapse - Help on costs?

Hi there,

I've got a Y reg 206 and having some problems with the rear suspension.

It's been making squeeking noises for a while as I come on and off the throttle, the noise was coming from the back end. Thought it was just the springs making the noise.

Steadily got worse and hit a bump the other night at slow speed and the back end clunked badly, now there is no suspension on the rear, drivers' side wheel, and the wheel arch has dropped very low over the wheel compared to the other side.

On my way back, a light scrapping noise was also there now and then, but not been out in it since.

Got it booked in at a garage on Weds..

Any ideas as to what it is and the price?

Desperate for any help possible.

Gem

*also, the car has been lowered previously, and recently I had to get all new wheels due to the previous alloys being badly buckled.... *

Hi

It sounds like a simple broken spring - WHICH I WOULD GET SORTED ASAP!

If the broken spring spins around and grabs your tyre, you can imagine what will happen.

It could also be a problem with the swing arm bush, but not as likley as a spring.

Get it up on a ramp and checked - saftey first.

Cost? if its a spring, std ones are probably £25-£35 plus fitting. If your are lowered, then get one from the same manufacturer as differing makes will have different spring rates and ride heights.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply, I thought they had torsion bars at the back?

Is that the same cost if it was the bar that had broke..?

Hi

Ok - I may be wrong, and if so - SORRY!

If it is torsion bar same goes really, except its safer, in that there is no spring about to shred your tyre!

I could imagine removing the remains of the old spring can be tricky, but other than that, should not be an expensive job - much as previously mentioned..

If the bar has broken, the car will probably be sitting on its bump stop....hence real low!
