Default Idea's for replacing original speakers.

Hi, all.
Looking to replace original speakers in my 307 2.0 hdi (51) plate.
It has original radio and 5 disc cd changer, not sure which or what make as have no tools to remove and have a look.
I'm not looking for out an out base, just looking to improve on what was originally installed.
Willing to spend a bit of my hard earned cash for a good improvement, up to around 150 pound or a little more.
Have had a search but i would like to no what others are using and doing to get improved sound.

Any help would be great.

Hi!

I just replaced my front speakers in my 307 estate, swapped out the tweeters in the dash and the speakers in the front doors (back doors next) Used a half decent component set from Hertz.

Im still using the original stereo and have to say I'm pretty happy with the sound quality and loudness from the new speakers.

Good luck!

Hi Guys, I'm new on the forums and am very interested to hear about your speaker upgrades! I've had my 02 307sw HDI for about 8 months now and am pretty tired of the stock sound system!

edd1, would you mind if I asked what speakers and parts you used in your upgrade? I saw your other thread where you were asking about whether or not to use the new crossover or rely on an existing one and just replace the speakers. What did you do in the end?

rogerde, sorry to hijack your thread

Hi mate!

In the end I didn't use the supplied filters and everything is working as it should without them!

The speakers I bought are Hertz Dieci DSK 165 (woofer & Tweeter kit) everything went well installing them, only small problem was that I broke half the panel clips on the doors but thats to be expected I think...

Otherwise, no problems. Tweeter's fit ok in the grills for the dash. The screw holes for the woofers fit fine although I had to saw off three plastic things from the door panel that the old speakers fit into, hard to explain exactly but you'll see what I mean if you change yours. ( it took just a few seconds)

The below list might help when connecting the speaker wires :-)

Pear Green mark 8430-1 (+)
right door Blue mark 8431-1 (-)

Pear Green mark 8422-1 (+)
right front Blue mark 8423-1 (-)

Pear Ochre mark 8410 (+)
left door Red mark 8411 (-)

Pear Ochre mark 8420 (+)
left front Red mark 8421-1 (-)

Pear White mark 8471-1 (+)
back right Brown mark 8471-1 (-)

Pear Blue mark 8450-1 (+)
back left Grey mark 8451-1 (-)

Ah lovely, thanks for your reply edd. I've checked the price and thats a little more than I was looking to spend, although I can use the specs of those to help me choose mine.

And how do you rate the sound? Did you retain the original (I think its clarion?) Headunit? Ideally I want to keep it a) to keep the cost down and b) because I think a lot of aftermarket ones look really tacky.

Cheers for the info, itll no doubt come in handy. Getting a CV joint sorted this month but hopefully when my next paycheck is in I'll be doing this!
