This fix worked for me, my problem was the buttons 1-5 flashing and disks would not load and play.
If you have this problem then this could also fix your cd changer, however I accept no responsibility if you break something trying this but if you’re trying this then I guess it’s already broken. What I’m saying is try if you want but do so at your own risk I don't guarantee it will fix your cd changer. I recommend ejecting all cd's from the set while you have power to it and the insert a cd into slot 5 and wait for the set to try to load it once this has failed eject the disk, sometimes you need to power cycle the radio before you can eject the disk, we want the mechanism to stay at slot 5 as this is the easiest position to work on the mechanism. Ok start by pulling out the changer and remove the wiring harness from the back of the set, this is done by pressing the raised part in front of the black lever that locks the connector in place and then sliding the black lever and the connector will fall out. Looking from the top of the set you will see at the back where the wiring connector is a rectangle section that sticks further back than the rest of the top cover, this is the easiest location I found to pull off the top cover, just pull it up from the back and remove it to gain access to the internals. Now look at the back for a rectangle box section attached to the back of the set see (pic 01) and remove the 2 t8 screws (pic 02) and pull off the cover to expose a small circuit board (pic 03). We need to remove this circuit board so first we need to disconnect the ribbon cable from inside the set, a small precision screwdriver will work well to slide the retainer on the ribbon connector seen in (pic 05). Now back to the rear of the set and in (pic 03) you will notice 2 metal tabs 1 at each side of the board that are twisted over to hold it in place, simple using a pair of pliers gently twist these straight so they no longer cover the circuit and then lift out the circuit board gently so as not to strain the ribbon cable which should come away from the circuit fairly easily. Now looking at pic 06 check the part marked A we need the angled parts of b & c to be inline part b is what causes the problem as it bends up very slightly and stops the 2 parts engaging correctly when a disk is loaded. What needs to happen is that when we load a cd part b moves towards part c and b should go under c to work correctly but if b is bent it then goes on top of c and thus the cd does not sit true in its slot and cannot be read. Pic 07 show how it should be with a cd loaded, remember though to load a disk you will need to first reconnect the ribbon cable to the circuit board at the back of the set and reconnect the main wiring harness, I did this without re securing anything to allow testing as you may need to bend part b a little at a time to get it right. Once you are happy that it loads a cd in each slot and plays it you can reassemble your set which is just a reversal of disassembly, take care to ensure the ribbon cable is attached securely and that you slide back the retainer on its connector and bend back the metal lugs to hold in place the circuit, you don't want this to move and short out on its casing. It’s a fiddly job but in my eyes well worth the time and patience to get it working again and much better than fitting a cubby hole thing. Good luck if you try this, if you do please tell me how you get on. Thanks. PS photos have had to be added over 2 posts as only 4 photos are allowed per post, all pics also in a zip file in second post. ![]()

Apparently I have a different problem (had it since I got my 307 2003):
The 5 lights flash all the time; I took the changer apart, and checked everything was sliding where it was meant to: the one thing I'm not sure of is the black thing at the back (which is obviously used to stop on vertical movement; it doesn't seem to slide back and forth nicely while there is a certain lug in the bottom of it. I've unplugged it, taken it apart, put it back together a few times now; and every time I first plug it in, "Load CD1" comes up on the MFD, and #1 is lit up green. If I press any of the 1-5 buttons, it just goes back to flashing orange, same if I place a cd in any of the slots. Really not sure what the problem is here; when does Load CD1 normally come up? Does the changer think that someone is always loading a cd in? |

Nice fix, i didnt notice this but i had the same problem.. completely stripped mechanism and rebuilt (unit came from a scrap so was completely unaligned) rebuilt and working fine, occasionally the mechanism locks up and wont do anything, so i find slamming the palm of my hand into the dash is a reasonable cure.
Coming to think it hasnt done it for a while
