Default Double or Single din?

Helloooo!

Right, I've jammed my 5 disc cd changer in my 307, and the radio is clicky and annoying because it randomly "seeks" the radio channel even when it sounds fine.

Anyway I'm looking at a new head unit. The space would leave me enough for a double din, but I'd like to know if there are any audio advantages to double din. I am looking to spend no more than £200 on a head unit so I wouldn't be getting a touch screen/sat nav one.

So my question is:

Is a double din stereo the way to go? I am going to be putting a decent sound system in so if there are any performance advantages to these I'd be happy to hear.

there isnt much of a difference between double or single apart from the fact that double dins can have screens attached to the front. but as you said your not getting one with a screen, it will be down to what your preferances are and what features you want.

i had a single din (still do in my new car) sony mexbt-2600 headunit, the stalk behind the steering wheel worked (with adaptors) it has bluetooth so i can use my phone through my speakers in a call and playing music from it. it could play mp3 and wma files. aux socket on front to plug an mp3 player to it.

now you can get radios that do all that, and more e.g. usb. even for less that £200

Fair play like. Mind, all the double din head units I have looked at have what i want, usb, SD card, mp3 etc. And i don't want to disregard what you are saying but my main reason for double din is because it will look right being there. Single din i think just won't suit being in my 307.

And I'm not sure on that alpine head unit mate, I read reviews of 4 stars and it blabs on about iPhone. I don't have anything made by Apple so I'd miss out on all the key features

yeah that what all people talk about now...iphone this, ipad that, kinda pisses me off a tad

yeah you can get conversion kits for double din to single that look smart...in my 307 (when i had it) i had the above radio single din and a tray sorter thing underneath. the same in ford had the standard double din now it has the same radio and a tray underneath that in my own personal opinion i prefer singles to doubles...dont know why but when i see double din i think oh factory fit

but its all down to personal preferance and that...in the end its you that driving

Hmm, do you have any pics mate?

I'd do single din if the sound was good and it looked nice (I'm all about the looks)

what do you think of this one? http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/pion...h-3200dvd.html

I have read reviews, all 5 star, and quite fancy it as it's pioneer and cheap.

Another thing... are there any covers for double din units so when you park up, you can conceal it?

i do have photos of both my peugeot and focus...just have to dig them out of my pc (will update and post when i find them).

the sound quality of single dins can be pretty good...i have a sony headunit which has a built in amp (like most), same as that pioneer and tbh the quality is really good once you have it set right, such as the correct EQ, loudness etc.

with the adaptor kits it looks smart and pro aswell...so no problem there. also on mine because i changed the lights to blue in both my peugeot and focus, the headunit was illuminated blue aswell so it fits perfectly and looks fantastic in the dark.

just had a look at the one your looking at, and for price it seems ok...features that i have noticed is that you can still use your steering stalk to control the radio (adaptor needed). and i thought it was pretty gouchie for it to dual sound - music in front and, with screens, dvds in rear.

quite a few other features.

i just had a thought, is the peugeot slot a double din? im just asking because i know a few people have been caught out thinking they have double din but in fact have din and half....

Well it has the cassette/radio head unit AND the 5 Disc CD changer. I was actually thinking yesterday "is this really a double din slot or not?"

Maybe I should get single din and a pocket thing underneath, or some kind of awesome looking thing so it all looks nice!

Will pioneer have the adaptor kits to suit the 307?

And I am sure I read somewhere on the forum that somebody was asking if they cut out the middle bit of the centre trim (the piece that separates the disc changer from the radio) could they put double din in, and somebody else said they certainly could. I might measure the opening. Is double din opening 7" or is that including the whole face and surrounds etc.?

yeah gouchie is good...say all the time in forces when we get new equipment which is awesome.

pioneer wont do the kits, it will be by autoleads who do the plastic facia, normally black or silver (if your lucky). you can pick them up in halfords.

im not sure on dimensions but your best bet is google for that one.

still looking for the photos haha got hundreds lol

Hehe dig dig dig! Dig them photos out!

I've been playing black ops recently so if you have a spare claymore that would be Gouchie as you say!

Right I'll have a double check of the size mate, as well as looking for single din with MP3, WMA, BlueTooth, SD card slot AND USB

And awesome sound.

Did you replace your 307 speakers?
