Firstly please accept my appologies for asking for help in my very first post.
Just purchased a 2001 406 and had it MOTd yesterday, went out today to give it a better looking at as when i bought it i took it straight to an MOT garage so not had it since i bought it. What i noticed was the clarion pu-2184a headunit is constantly bleeping at me. I have trolled this forum looking for answers and i discovered that this is because its not married to the ecu, ie wrong vin in it. I also discovered that i can turn it on with no key in the car but only for so long after having a door open and it loses its memory when turned off. Again trolling these forums i discovered the issue with the 2 wires causing this.. If my memory serves me correctly its the red and yellow ones pointed out in the forum and should only need done with an aftermarket headunit, not the origional type like i have. This is what confuses me slightly. I removed the headunit and i discovered this car has probably had an aftermarket headunit fitted into it sometime in the past as 2 wires have been cut and swopped round to join each other. My best guess is that the person who had the car before me had an aftermarket headunit fitted and removed it when they sold it thus causing the need to cut and rejoin these wires and the trader who i bought it from has either fitted the origional back in (if they gave them it) or they have sourced a replacement and fitted it without putting the wires back to peugeot specification. What puzzles me is the 2 wires in my car that have been cut are a purple one and a white one so i have purple joined to white and white joined to purple. If the cables in my car that have been cut were the colours this forum said they should be i would simply put them back the way they are meant to be but because of the difference in colour i thought i would ask your opinion. I am going to try joining white to white and purple to purple as this is the obvious answer but there is one thing i would like to know. Could my headunit be beeping due to the way these wires are connected. Im wondering if one of these wires could be the one responsible for taking the vin number back to the ECU to let them know that they are a married pair or if im just hoping its that simple and i need to first sort out the wiring and then take it off to peugeot so they can charge me a silly fee to simply pair the hadunit to my ECU. |

It's beeping because it needs to have your chassis number programmed into it. Somebody in your area with Peugeot Planet should be able to do it for you for some beer tokens

Still beeping as expected, just called the local peugeot garage to see what they would take to pair it to the car and was told one hours labour at £65 plus VAT. I may be silly but im not insane lol. Ill have a troll through the forum and see if i can find someone with Planet in my area (fife) and try sweeten them up with the offer of "beer tokens". Im sure i noticed someone yesterday on here from Perth with it (about half an hour away).......now lets see if i can find them again.
