Default CD Changer Headache!!!!! Help

Hii i have a 206 55 plate it didnt originally come with a cd changer but i wanted to get one fitted. so i went to the local scrap yard and the guy took out a PU -2293 D model cd changer and also the wiring harness for it from a 206 2001 plate i think. I have looked everywhere so if u know where you can get a cd changer lead long enough let me know because the one he gave me he cut some wires of that had nothing to do with the cd changer but i dont know whether this could be the problem? secondly i have done a diagnostic on the car and have enabled the cd changer because before it was not present but now it is activating the slot on the main headunit cd player which is a clarion PU-21457A. having done this the cd changer still does not work, even thought it powers it up and lets me eject the cartridge and also when turned on it searches for the discs. I have run out of ideas apart from a potential faulty wire what else could it be? i have a friend who is an engineer who produces wiring harnesses for Landrover and jaguar, i gave him the the lead and he ran some tests on it and he believes there is nothing wrong with the lead but still in doubt. I need help has anyone experiences this before and i hope i havent confused you guys.

Thanks for reading this long message.

Hi, the CD changer came out of a 2001 206, do you know which headunit the car had? is it RD3 ?
How and where did you activate the CD changer with diagnostics?
Regards

There is no need to configure VIN number for the CD changer, only for the headunit and his one was already in the car...

Maybe it isn't the right changer for the RD3 unit?
And if you think the headunit CD changer button is faulty, you can change source from the remote control on the steering stalk

The configuring of cd changer was a last resort option to try because of the problem all aspects needed to be exhausted through planet before conclussion that there must be a fault some where else.
