Default Audio Sockets

I have a 308, and it has a couple of "Jack" sockets in the glove box, the salesman told me "You can play your music on your MP3 player through them" when I asked him "how do I do that" he admitted he didn't really know.

The MP3 player I have has a USB plug on it and it plugs into the USB socket on my computer to let me transfer my MP3's to the player. All pretty standard stuff for the 21st Century I know, but, can anybody help me do what the salesman thinks they should be used for?

try plugging a set of headphones in them. that will test to see if they are 3.5mm jacks. if so you basically get your phone or mp3 player with a headphone socket, buy a male to male
3.5mm jack cable, plug one end into mp3/phone other end into socket. turn your radio to AUX and play your music by pressing play on phone/mp3 player.

Thanks John, I'll give that a try.

(Why are there two sockets in the car)?

If its the RCA jacks, thats then video connector (no idea if its video in or out).

And if its TRS stereo, then its the aux in, and works as john_h described.

As for the usb, it can work in two ways, just as a power outlet for charging your phone/usb device; Or as a mass storage/sync connection so you can play music off ipod/mp3 player that support the usb connection.

If they are White and Red plugs you will need adapter which goes from RCA jacks Red Audio right and White t' other channel to whatever connection you have on the MP3 palyer ie 3.5 mm jack, or USB

Like this for 3.5mm jack

Or this for USB depending on which USB socket you have on MP3 player

You probably have something like this fitted, in which case you need the socket to jack or USB adapter
Malcolm.

Bet your bottom dollar they are the white & red ones as Malcolm has said
Don't know why Peugeot seem to fit them as standard these days, as I don't think they are standard for devices

They've put them in a basic 207 too.... definitely no video in them, just the sockets. Why not put USB & 3.5mm jack as standard

..... ah, thats it..... they cost more!

hmm, thats true. uber strange, as service box also lists the aux+usb jacks besides the rca connectors too. p/n 6579 J1

but, shouldnt it be mentioned in the user manual or something??
