Default Aeriel reception RD4 problem

I have just bought a 207 with RD4 stereo. The problem I have is finding and keeping radio stations. I can only find one station. I have to use manual seek. When driving around it does not seek alternative frequencies.
I have consulted the manual, and ensured that RDS is enabled. There does not appear to be an AF function.

I have gotten the coin tray out below to feel that the aerial is properly connected.

Any clues for what might be up before I pull the stereo out and put another stereo in to isolate the problem.

Any ideas. Today parked somewhere else were able to get more stations, but still reception is patchy.

Are you sure the aerial is fully home. I had a Parrot handsfree kit fitted recently and the radio reception was poor (very good prior to kit). Took radio back out and the aerial looked like it was fully home put had not clicked over the stop on the connector, a good firm push and all is well again.

Thanks. I'll check that tonight. Sounds likely. Certainly something has been removed. There's a hole in the coin tray.

ill put it on being a damaged cable for the antenna or the antenna itself.

this would of especially been done by people soldering to earths for such things as dvd players.

could of soldered to the antenna outer copper braiding, for the earth, tore it off and damaged the earth if that makes sense.

Thanks John.
I do hope not. Getting it out tonight and will have a better idea. I get the impression it was used for high mileage a while back, so is likely a parrot was installed.

you can easily test this with a bit of wire. basically when you look at the aerial connection there are two parts, the center (signal wire) and the outer (earth) jam the wire into the earth bit and put it on radio and connect to a different earth point...bodging really.

if your signal improves you have your answer, if not fault could be the antenna or actual unit.

I have gotten to the back of it, and think I can see the problem.

I haven't seen one of these new aerial connections before. It looks like the stereo side has the signal wire exposed which the aerial lead goes over. This piece of exposed wire looks to have been crushed against the side of the connection.

Will try getting it away from this crushed state, and into a normal position. Hope I can get it to work. If it is crushed, and can't be straightened then it'll be a new stereo.

The stereo terminal isn't crushed. Having got the magnifying glass out it looks to be supposed to be like that.

When trying to use the wires to test I found the stereo would seem to be fine. I inserted a wire into the signal section of the plug on the stereo and reception was fine.

Additionally earthing the aerial when connected made no difference.

The internals of the plug look to be damaged. Perhaps it's not properly connecting. The aerial wire looks to be in original factory wrapping tape as far as I can see, so doesn't suggest damage to the aerial. I'm thinking to try and replace the aerial plug. Any experience of this, and where to get the plug?
