Default 407 Radio/console display issue

Hi all,

New here, so please be patient

I have just taken ownership of an 04 plate 407 1.6Hdi SE, and there is a strange issue with the radio display.

On starting the car from cold the display lights up fine with dark background and orange text. After about 20 mins, the display slowly disintegrates until I cannot read anything on it.

I have tried changing the display to orange background, black text and this helps a little but as soon as the car/weather gets hot the display starts to fade until it's almost unreadable again.

Also, since it's kind of related to the radio, what would be the best solution for an MP3 player for this radio, since the CD player will not read MP3 from CD.

Many thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice

If the 407 is anything like the 307 then you can pop the display out from the top of your dash and replace the bulbs at the back with ones from halfords.

the display is sadly a common fault on the 407 and the only solution is to replace itif you change it look for one with a black back on it NOT a white back as the black one is a later version and solves this issue.I find switching my display off for 10 mins helps, but only for a short time
your cd player (which type you got) should read cd's but wont read mp3's

Thanks for the advice Trem - I'll look into getting a replacement display.

Are there any inputs on the CD unit that would allow me to hook up an mp3 player using something like RCA or 3.5mm jack plugs? I don't want to replace the stereo completely as i always feel it spoils the look of the interior.

Thanks

see if you can make sense of this

Trying to get a dealer to install ipod connection kit VAR846. Website says:-

Browse through your iPod menus using the vehicles audio controls, and see the track information such as artist / album etc displayed on the cars multifunction display. The kit will also charge your iPod while connected.

Price £139 including tax and dealer fit. I have been calling dealers and getting prices for between £150-£165.

another snippet

I meant to say with this unit fitted the cd multichanger is disabled unless you buy an additional wiring loom. I didn't bother with this as all my songs are on my ipod.

Trem, you are a legend.

I've not even checked the glove box for any kind of ipod/mp3 jack. I'm gonna go check it out now. However I am assuming that it doesn't have it, as it's only a 2004 model - it's the SE, but not that high spec in luxury, and MP£ players weren't AS popular in 2004.

I don't have an Ipod - I have a BlackBerry which I have a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable, and play my music through some high powered PC speakers at home.

Anyway I'll check the glove box now and see what I can find

Thanks for your help - VERY much appreciated

Curses! Can't see any kind of MP£/jack plug socket in the glove box

Is access to the rear of the Stereo easy?
