Default 406 radio

hi, my radio has been playing up for a while. losing tha channel and not tunning back in unless scrolling through the fm1,2,3 mw back to fm1. then it would be ok. now it's decided not to work for any wave lenth/channel. cd plays ok. put a bit of wire in rear as a test aerial but no difference. still just static. any ideas.( it's a mk2 51plate pu2381a )
cheers guys.

is the aerial still ok on your car? i have heard the base bit at the bottom can tend to fail...(the ovally shaped plastic bit at the bottom that it screws into) if that is ok, sounds like the receiver in the radio has gone - new radio needed.

yeah, i tried the old method of coat hanger in back of stereo to give it a test but still no joy.
no easy fixes then, i'm handy with a soldering iron but not trained on radios.
anyone want a shagged stereo out a 406.?

i wouldnt say the coat hanger bit would work definately as the middle wire (the hole) will be the feed, but on the outside bit on the plug (on back of radio) is a metal piece which will also need to be connected to the aerial for the grounding/negative.... it wont receive anything if this is not connected...coax cable basically...definate way to find out tho is to plug in a different unit.

you may hear some beeping when it is in your car, as it will be paired with the other cars ecu (an anti theft thing) but it should still work to test your aerial...if it works it your radio, if not, it may be the base unit on the aerial...
