Default Handbrake on! message

Please help me from going insane with my 807 2.2hdi Executive.

We have an error on the LCD screen saying Handbrake on! and the STOP and handbrake symbol on the dash, and three beeps from the dash. It seems to come up every minutes or so.

It just came on, when we were parked on uneven ground and moved off after releasing the handbrake. There was a clunk from the back, and ever since then we have had this error.

It was suggested that the handbrake switch behind the lever was faulty, so I replaced it, made no difference. Brake fluid level is fine.

Peugeot don't really know what it is, they had it on the diag machine, no faults came up, handbrake applied check said yes, they checked the handbrake mechanicals, this was working properly.

They mentioned it could be something to do with the BSI, how do I check that.

Just seems strange after the original clunk, they think it's something to do with the electrics.

Please help, I am going mad with this beep, beep, beep all the time.

Hi I had the exact same problem last winter it turned out to be a bad earth connection in a large switch/connector inside the dash the wires inside had a large build up of corrosion so they change the connector sorry cant tell you where exactly the connector was but it was large they gave me the old one back. try an auto electrician first. I went to pug dealer they started spouting bsi this new loom that scary when a mechanics tool box only contains a laptop and a list of the most expensive parts to try first it has not re-occured so I would try this first if I recall it only cost me about £40 good luck
