Does anyone know if the video input has to be either PAL or NTSC or does it not matter?

Yes I've looked in the manual and can't find any reference to PAL or NTSC could be both but wanted to check first

NTSC is mostly used in north america and japan, so you should be pretty much safe going with PAL.
