Question Stop Water Temp too high warning

Hi I have 607 2.2 HDI Auto. Lovely car only problem is on a couple of occasions Just after starting and approx 1 mile into journey a warning comes up Stop with temp symbol in red on dash. On centre consol comes up "Water Temp too high" or words to that effect.
The Temp gauge on the car is @ cold and heater is hot/warm. I stopped the car and waited a few minutes and returned home with the warning still coming up on dash. Coolant gauge still @ cold. When home switched off waited couple of minutes and turned ignition on and the coolant gauge now went to nearly half. It has done this before recently and I topped up the coolant which I didnt think was very low, however. Took for a drive next day and fine no problems. The following day it was back again. Think it might be electrical as the car was only running less than a mile. Appreciate any advise thank you Maghaberry

Hi, i have the same problem on my V6, but mine only happens occasionally when the outside temperature is less than 6c. Also my temperature gauge only goes to 90 in traffic. On the morotways it goes to zero.
I was reading on the Alfaowner that this is also common on select Alfa engines, and they suggest a new thermostat. I had a new temperature sender unit fitted some 2 years ago, but didn't change anything.

What and where is the sensor unit you have mentioned (on my V6) ?

PS, sorry to hijack the thread.
All the Best.. Nigel

Hi got new Coolant Temp Sensor Had to take out Air Filter housing and disconnecting the MAF As you face the engine on the 2.2 HDI its on the right just under the MAF on the engine its self. Mine was gren in colour and pushes in and out held in place with a push on Clip. Got it from Peugeot £15 It not a big job but there is very little room. So far so good Thank you for the advice saved getting Peugeot to plug in @ ££££'s expense. Appreciate the help Thank you Maghabery
