Default Steering geometry

I've got terrible rear tyre wear problems on my 2001 2.2. diesel 607. The inside half of the tyres is wearing out at double the rate of the outside, and a new tyre won't even last 10,000 miles (probably a fair bit less).

I took the car to a steering geometry specialist, who advised that the rear camber was slightly out, but the toe-in was significantly out of range. According to his equipment, the rear steering geometry should be adjustable, but he could find absolutely no method of adjustment (and he seemed to know his stuff). He suggested that it might be possible to buy a conversion kit to make the geometry adjustable.

Any ideas where I go from here?

dont think you could get the kits from anywhere... its something Im looking into aswell... found my tyre on the front is doing the same.. need to investigate a bit more..

seeing that he is a specialist, he should know the measurements...

did you do a four wheel alignment??

alignments offered at Kwicfit etc is a waste of money and is not "four wheel" alignment..

Yes he checked the geometry on all four wheels, which was free of charge. However, doing all of the adjustments costs about £100! So this is the proper job, not just a quick tracking assessment. The company was Merityre Specialists who I found at www.alignmycar.co.uk

Well the answer is 'Yes', both the rear camber and toe-in are adjustable.

I printed off the instructions on how to do it from the Service / Parts CD that I'd purchased, and they are very specific. The geometry adjustments have to be made with car sitting at a certain height. i.e. with the suspension compressed.

When I showed the details to Merit Tyres, they seemed a bit bemused, so I found a company that were very experienced in working on Peugeots. Apparently only Peugeot, Citroen and BMW cars have to be set with the suspension compressed. The company I used was Imperial Tyres in Swindon; I don't know if they're part of a chain, but I can thoroughly recommend them.

Both the rear and front geometry was way out, so hopefully my tyre wear will now be reduced. It makes a change to drive in a straight line with the steering wheel in the correct position! The cost was about £70.

To ajust the rear toe you turn the off-set bolts on the tie bars at the wheel side.
