Default Intermittant Faults

Hi,

I have a 2003 2.2 Hdi Auto which is suffering from intermittant faults. Sometimes i get the engine management light on with the "Pollution Control System Faulty" warning on the display, sometimes this is accompanied with the ESP/ASR fault, and also sometimes I get the ABS warning on too, and also sometimes I get "Right Indicator Faulty" warning.

Now, sometimes these warning are by themself or combination of all of them but at other times there are no faults.

Sometimes the car feels really underpowered briefly although this only happens very rarely.

I have read about some resistors near to the fans at the front of the car and that these corrode and break up, if someone could help me locate these I will have a look at them to see if they are the problem.

Hope someone can help me.

Regards,

Gavin

ESP/ASR fault ould be an iffy wheel sensor, al la 407 style. Plugging into Planet will confirm this (or otherwise), and identify the cuplrit wheel.

The indicator faulty warning is again similar to a 407 problem, and on those cars can be cured by stripping and cleaning the contacts and connectors on the clusters, and smearing them with dielectric grease. Sometimes laying in a new earth strap cures it if the connectors are really furred up.

The loss of power could be related to the anti-pollution warning. What mileage has she done, and has she always been run on FAP safe low-ash oil?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The car has done 93,000 and I've just brought it so not sure on the history of the oil that has been used. What type of oil do you recommend as I'm going to get an oil change done?

2 of the tyre pressure sensors are missing (from when the tyres were changed apparantly, snapped off by the tyre fitter who didn't know they were there) so would this be the cause of the ASR fault?

Regards

Gavin

Gavin, instead of wasting money here and there... you need to get the Particle filter cleaned, Eloys fluid topped up, connect to PSA diag to tell the cars computer that its done..

you get these errors together as they are on the same circuit and is a pain in the arse... Also the fans run from the same circuit, have you noticed the fans kicking in at all..

the loss of power is called the limp mode when the car goes in protection mode to avoid damage.

I know you would want to save money but knowing your car has done 93000 I reckon you need to get this done to avoid any further problems... oil change is not gonna make it go away..

tyre pressure sensor wont cause the fault, I would get them disabled anyway as they are a nuisance..

as far as the resistors are concerned, they are behind your front grill and can only be accessed by taking the front bumper off..

hope this helps

Default Resistors replaced

Thanks guys.

I have replaced the resistors with new ones. Managed to change them without taking the bumper off....was rather fidley and have a few cuts on hands but still that is done now.

Fault is still present so next action as you say is to get the dpf cleaned and fluid topped up......how much do you think this will cost??

Thanks for the help so far.

The fluid costs about £100, though you can pick it up cheaper if you shop around. With any luck you'll be able to strip the DPF and clean it yourself for nowt. Then you just need someone to reset the system on Planet.
