Default Intermitant Silent Sat Nav

I have a 2001 607 with Sat Nav. I have just completed a 500 mile non stop drive on Sat Nav. The voice on the sat nav spoke at the start giving directions. Then no sound for about 1 hour (everything else worked correctly). The CD disc shut off when the sat nav was talking but no sound came out of the speakers. The volume control on the sat nav was set at 12 and never altered.
After about an hour of silence the voice returned for 2 directions, then stopped again. Eventually coming back for over an hour before remaining silent for the rest of the journey.
Does any one have any ideas as to the problem?

I had a similar problem last year and changed the ECU this has not helped.

While some drivers would welcome a silent female back seat driver I find it frustrating.

When you say 'similar', was it this probem?
It just sounds a bit unlikely that the sat-nav worked fine but with intermittant voice, if the old lens/disk combination was behind it.

My wild stab in the dark would be a check on the multi-connectors.

although the satnav ecu has got memory to save previous destinations and settings, the navigation and voice is run by the map disc and drive. When the sound goes off, you can press the left hand stalk button to make it speak and refresh.

Its got nothing to do with multiconnectors. Mine was freezing and no sound.

Ah right, I must have misunderstood the OPs post, I thought the sat-nav display was working throughout the journey with just the voice going 'breasts-up' intermittantly.

You didn't miss understand and you are correct. The display worked throughout the journey but the sound was intermitant.
Do you have any idea which multiplug could be responsible.
