Default How should it drive?

Hi All,

I recently purchased a Peugeot 607 3.0V6 SE on a 52 plate. The car has a full peugeot service history and has done 56k miles. Generally I am extremely pleased with the car but since I have not driven one of these before there are a couple of things I am not sure if they are right or not.

First of all, there does not seem to be much pull when you first pull away in 1st gear (such as pulling away from lights etc ). When you first put your foot down it seems as though there is not enough power or it could do with a lower gear. It does not hesitate as such or mis-fire, it just feels as though it is underpowered when pulling away. As soon as you have pulled away it seems to gain power pretty quickly. This has an automatic gearbox.

Also, the car is obviously very quite as even on the motorway at 70MPH you cannot really hear any engine noise or wind noise. But I have noticed a noise which I can only describe as a hum. I would associate this with wheel bearing noise on any other car but there does not seem to be anything wrong with the wheel bearings. Again, this may just be the normal sound of the car and as the car is so quiet it is just more pronounced. It could be tyre noise but just does not sound like tyre noise to me.

Perhaps someone who has a 607 3.0 Automatic ( or knows them ) can educate me.

Best Regards.

Steve.

alright steevo..

glad that you are pleased with the motor.. its a nice drive.

the humming noise could be anything, have you tried switching off the climate control ??? sometimes these wee little things bugg you (dont worry Im the same)

the road noise is nothing.. thanks to the double glazed windows

with regards to the pull, its normal mate, its just the way the engine is. whats yours 100BHP, 110BHP or 130BHP.. only thing to remember is not put the car under extreme pressure, ie. rev no more than 2000 RPM during gear changes and so forth..

give us a wee shout if you need anymore help..

Mine is the 200BHP 3.0V6 Automatic. It just seems a bit dead when pulling away. The car before this was a 2.5V6 Auto Mondeo and that certainly had more pull-away power and noticeable too. Once you are moving the power is good although kick-down is a bit slow.

The hum noise seems to get louder as you go faster. Its probably nothing, it may just be due to the fact the car is quiet that any little road noise around the car gets amplified.
