Default Colour Multifunction display fault

Hi, I have a 3.0 V6 607. I've had it for two years now without any serious problems until now. The gremlins have now arrived. The colour multidisplay in the dash has become tempremental. It works fine sometimes (getting less & less), when it fails the screen goes blank (black).
When this happens all the audio system goes down and it refuses to respond to any input which means I'm stuck with what ever is playing at the time of the fault. The telephone will not work nor will the steering column controls.
The screen occassionally goes grey (only noticable at night) and looks as if it is trying to work correctly without success.
Has anyone got any experience with this ?
If so how did you cure it?

I assume it is the ECU which is situated there.
Any idea what its called (officially) and where would be the best place to get one?

Default How Much?

I have just returned from the main dealer. It appears that the ECU described in previous posts costs £1378 + VAT.
Because the screen does not work they say they can't test it so they have to replace first.
They totally refuse to let me have a copy of the cars wiring diagrams so it appears that at the moment I'm stuffed. Unless there's some one out there who can help.

David, as suggested b4, no point to go to dealer for this kinda thing.. depending on where you live, your local garage might not have even had the training for 607..

best bit is to go to a breaker and get it from there..

check your PM

Default Similar Multifunction screen problem.

Afternoon folks,
Sorry to dredge up this old thread (and with my first post!) but I'm the proud owner of a '02 plate 607 2.2Hdi, and I have pretty much identical issues, albeit mine never works, and only occasionally tries to power up the colour screen - so I'm always stuck in Radio mode, stalk control doesn't work, can't select CD player etc.
Would anyone recall the resolution to this? (I got the bit about trying the scrapyard, but can't see what I'm trying it for!)
I've had it in to a Peugeot specialist this week, but nothing showing on any of the diagnostic traces he ran.

Appreciate any assistance - and if I can return the favour, don't hesitate to ask (I don't much about Peugeots, although I will try my best! Though if it's watches or trees-related, I'm your man )

EDIT 3.4.12 -Found more info about the VDO ECU behind the glove, have a part code and a few companies that refurb them (not cheap, about £400, but less than new at £1300!)- but i'm trying the scrappers first.

Hi BMX,
It was me that initially put this thread on.
The item you need to cure the problem is the Electronic Control Unit situated behind the glovebox. It is easy to change but there are two types for the colour display.
The differnce is one is for a car with an integrated telephone and the other does not. Don't get the wrong one (they aren't interchangeable). In my case I had to wait 4-5 months before one came up on Ebay, but it was well worth the wait. I managed to pick one up along with a complete exhaust and some minor parts for a ton (£100).
Good luck any probs PM me.
Dave

Default Colour multifunction display ECU

Thanks for the reply David - I have been furiously googling and reading up for a week or so, and had sort of come to that conclusion. I've even had the glovebox out to check if all the cables etc were seated in the ECU properly
Well, I'm now on the hunt myself (breakers are a nightmare for anything slightly obscure!) but you mention two options - I have the model with the integrated phone - you wouldn't know the different part numbers by any chance?
I've been going off the ref in another forum's thread, 22SY451/65, but didn't note mine down when I took the glovebox apart, and it's all back together now

all the best.

(Couldn't PM as I'm sub-20 posts!)

No prob with the PM.
My car had the exact same fault and I have the car with the intergrated phone. The number you put on looks right (from memory but it was over a year ago).
I found if you keep checking Ebay for people breaking 607's and send them an enquiry every couple of weeks or when they renew the listing. However you will get a lot of negative replies but it works eventually. One problem you may encounter- breakers know how much a new ECU costs.
Its worth it in the end.

Good luck

Keep me updated.

OK I've not seen one of these yet, but harping back to my old 'mending things' days, it may be possible to spot the overheating chip with the MK1 finger test (If you can get into this thing to chip level) and stick an aluminium heatsink on it with evostick. Or have a poke about with the wrong end of a toothbrush see if you can spot any intermittancy, dry joints, lose connections etc..
