Default Autogearbox

Hi all
Just wondering if any one can tell me what fluid to put in the gearbox
its a ZF 4HP20 box
Heres the story bought it last year after a couple of months gearbox failed
took it back to where i got it they sent it to a auto box repairer they fixed it
50 miles later its leaking oil took it to anpther branch of the repairer (nearer me)they fixed it again Picked it up and couple of days later a slight leak from drive shaft seal took it back fixed again but i noticed that the fluid was red (IE dexron) Peugeot recomend Esso lt 71141 fluid wich is a golden colour
asked them they said its ok to use Dexron
6 months later its compleatly failed again Its back with them again
Can anyone shed any light on the fluid please
Thanks Don

wrong oil could play the part but not necessarily... I suspect they havent changed the old seals when working on it (as it is a dealer only part)

as far as the oil is concerned, its a dealer part and again, motor factors would sell you one but I wouldnt recommend using it.. its not dear anyway..

there are two types a ATF 71141 and JWS 3309 comes with different part numbers. if you PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN I can give you the part number to get..

tbh, I know they are working on it, even if you get them the oil out of your pocket, it will give you peace of mind, I would stress them to put new seals on..

Well i think i got my answer
Rang 4 different auto box specialists they all said dexron 111 would be ok
As for the stealers just to confirm what we all know they are a waste of time

Hi

Call in at parts - service use a part numbered not a spec - but if you come in and look at the bottle it may have the spec on the side - not sure what oil it is could be dextron or dextron II

Thanks

I'm pretty sure it's DEXRON II or III, but you could always email pug themselves and ask them.

You could just buy it from the dealers. It doesn't matter what the bottle says if it's the right one.

There may be several different standards that are ok to use, but its quite possible they shouldn't be mixed.
