Folks
In the absence of getting a Haynes manual for my 607, does anyone know where the pump for the windcreen washer is located? I've taken off the plastic cover that conceals the wiper linkages, pollen filter etc. hoping to find it beside the washer reservoir filler but it seems to go down into the wheel arch/bulkhead. I've checked the fuses (although the drivers handbook and the location of individual fuses by comparison is questionable in some cases), and my attention is now on the motor itself. Any help would be most welcome. Car is a 2004 607 2.2 16v petrol (old style sat nav/computer etc) |

Hi Im not sure exactly but a good place to start is in the driver side wheel arch. remove the wheel arch liner and the plastic tank is held on by a nut either end.

have you checked all fuses ?? its very rare for the washer motor to go.. anyhow, you would need to take the car on the ramp and take the wheel arch shield off.. no screws involved.. its simply clipped on.. this will then give you access to the washer bottle on the driver side towards the front wing.. let me know if you need anyhelp.. Haynes dont really do a manual for 607.. If its just a one off job, I can help.. if you regularly need it then investing in a manual would be good investment. You can buy a disc from eebay which would give you access to repair manual.

Hi Scotcruz
Thanks for the advice - I re-checked the fuses, but still could not identify any blown ones (fuse number three under the steering wheel according to the book is the one and should be a 30 Amp, but in mine a 10 Amp is fitted and not blown!!). I took the plastic cover off the wheel arch and managed to get a multimeter onto the pump motor contacts and tested the switch again. All ok. I then took the pump itself to bits. It is in three parts - the terminal connection at the top, the motor itself and then a moulded part where the reservoir/outlet pipe connect which must also contain some sort of vane into which the shaft of the motor connects. Although the actual motor was heavilly corroded, I managed to get it to turn while connected to the terminal connection, but not the other bit with the vane. Reckon it must have jammed somehow and after ½ an hour trying to clean it up decided to try and source a completly new unit. Went to Halfords (ha ha), although they had various replacement motors when the lad checked and said "Nah dealer part I'm afraid", my heart sunk. However I remembered a local motor factors one of my mates used before on the off chance they could order it rather than me having to pay through the nose at a Pug dealer. They came up trumps - not only could they get the part, they had one in stock (apparantly common to various Pugs, Citroens and Renaults) - cost me £16. (TMS, Nerston, East Kilbride if you're in the area). So another 15 mins to put it all back together, and windscreen being skooshed perfectly. Thanks again for the post (and the other guy who also knew where the motor was hidden!!) G |
