607 Power Steering Fault

I have a 607 2.2 HDI S Auto 2004. I have had various faults which come and go but recently there are 2 which won't clear. The 1st one is the airbag fault indicator which comes on whenever I start the car and remains on until I switch of ignition.

The 2nd one is the steering which feels very heavy at times. I had the same fault a few weeks ago which then cleared and felt normal but now it's back again. A few weeks ago I got a whistling noise when turning the steering.

Can anybody give me any clues as to the causes and how to fix?
