607 interior lights

Hi all,

Just bought a 607 2.2 HDi (2003) and I love it...last car was a 2.5 TD Vauxhall Omega and although it was a lovely driver's car (6-cyl engine and RWD), I'm getting older now and need something more...refined...

ANYWAY I have a confusing problem with the interior lights - front and back - there are switches for both driver's side and passenger's side "map reading lights" but none seem to work...but the bulbs definitely are working as the come on with the main central interior light switch...

Can anyone explain?
