Default 607 engine light flashing

Hi all, I have just bought a mint condition 607 2.2 SE, X reg, only 38k on the clock. Lovely car etc and v pleased BUT I am having lots of niggly electrical problems. The tyre pressure sensors are constantly giving out spurious warnings, but they sort themselves out on a long run.

The most recent problem occurred when I was in a traffic queue when the engine "skipped a beat" and began to run a bit rough. I turned it off, then on (this seems to clear most faults) and the engine ran smoothly, but the "engine" light continued to flash and the info screen kept telling me the anti pollution system was inoperative.

Can this be cleared by me, or does it need an expert?

Hi Clown and Welcome to the forum

This topic has been widely covered on the forum and search function is really a gem..

Anyhow, the problems you stated are common on 607..

I would recommend you to neutralise the sensors they are pain in the arse and better being neutralised. This can be done by Peugeot unless you have an OBD II reader scanner.

Secondly, engine anti pollution warning could be of various things.. does you car have a full service history ? does it have a particle filter ??

mostly, when the system detect that the exhaust is blowing dangerous gases out of the system, it lights up and after 3 cycles it should automatically correct the error and the light should go off.. (3 cycles, three journeys and three ignition starts)

if you car has particle filter then it might need replacing or the particle filter oil resovior might need topping up. Again its a bit strange as you said that it has done 39000. For an X reg its seems strange.. So the service history is vital..

It could be anything, however like you said that you were in a traffic queue, I reckon the ECU will automatically clear the error after 3 cycles.

let me know if you need any more help..

hiya i would agree to the above about turning off the tyre valve sensors as they are costly and annoying, this has to be done through the peugeot computer as it needs to be configured in different ecu`s.

Thanks for all the info folks. I am pleased to reprt that I took the car to my local, backstreet garage, who had a computer doo-hickey that they plugged in that revealed the central processor had detected an ignition failure on the No 1 cylinder. The fault was obviously transient, but had "latched in" and kept the fault light flashing. It also carried a cruise control valve fault and the usual tyre pressure information.

The garage cleared all the faults and she runs as sweet as ever! All for only £20. A bargain.

BTW, I concur with all those praising this site. Modern car maintenance is a license to rip off the motorist, and sites like this are our best defence. Keep up the good work!

glad its sorted mate,,, dont want to take your joy away but, did you try to investigate why it gave a fault, is it a sensor that needs replacing ??? caz the light might come back.. I have cleared codes so many times but they still come back..

you are right that modern cars give a lisence to garages to rip the customers. Its great how we can share our experiences and help each other..
