Default 607 3000cc Petrol Overheating when towing

My 607 overheats when I tow my caravan, the caravan is small, light and certainly should be easily towed with a 3 litre engine.
Overheating occurs when it is under load, hill work mostly, I have had the radiators checked and all OK. I have recently used the manual shift (rather than leaving it in Auto) in the hope that this would help but it hasn't, my mechanic can't figure it out so hoping you can help please
Thanks
Brian

I have had a similar problem on my 607. It turned out to be a aprtially stuck thermostat. Apparently the water flow was sufficent for normal use but not enough when an eaxtra load was placed on the car.
Take the thermostat out and put it in a cup of boiling water, it shoukd oprn fully. If not replace it.
