Hello to all,
Please all who can give me your assistance and advice, apart from scrap the car. The story, been a Peugeot driver/owner since mid 80's last year bought a lovely 607 se 2.2 hdi auto just two owners from new 1 being the dealer ie show car 18months, then the second for 10years plus, fully serviced and maintained by Peugeot in the main same large main dealer, all the usual associated probs experienced and work done including the dpf etc. Could not understand why she was selling, I now regretfully know!! feel an ass I did not pickup. The main dealer now unco-operative, as it is the box. Last week whilst driving flashed uo on dash PDFR1.2.3 etc and on the screen automatic gearbox defective, lost all gears and went into free-wheeling, stopped put into P waited a few minutes, engaged the box and drove for several hundred yards or so, stopped tried again same thing happened, this carried on for 4/5 times in the end I had the car towed, as it was at night towed to home. Now no gear selection at all. Just a while prior to this, there was a little "roughness" going up from 1st to second and a distinctive sought of "clonk" coming down from 4th to third (I was advised nowt to worry about that's the norm) on a tiptronic, now know to be b......s not bessy!!!!! (sorry) A mechanic who does family cars(works as technician for main Ford dealer has now computer read the codes as follows, 1. po741= convertor lockup. 2. po733= gears incoherence. ANY ANSWERS TO THESE 4 CODES??? 3. p1730= ecu detect. 4. po720= output signal coherant. For now that is all he could do for me (thought of the work to exchange maybe a put off to him) All views and opinions to the codes and descriptions would be appreciated to actually start and move forward. Or is it just change the box to another from a breaker and risk the same if one could be found, or is it to just scrap and dump the car which quite honestly is a shame as it is such a lovely car in superb condition otherwise, and seems a waste to dispose of. Any member have a spare good box AT ZF 4HP20 serial number 20HZ290117233?? at a fair price or know who has?? Often read the forums some great persons with superb knowledge and advice, any help to resolve and save the car?? Look forward to any and all who can and will assist with my thanks in advance. Apologies for the length ,on another thread there was criticism for no history!! Regards |

I have a 607 auto which works fine, but my partner has had an identical problem with her Tiptronic g/box (3 days after buying it from a private seller) on a Volvo XC90.
The end result was a new gearbox was required. After a lot of searching I found a place in Barking (London) that was very reasonable. If you do need a box, and live near to London (UK) drop me a line and I will supply their details. Don't just scrap the car. |

As the previous reply, I'm wondering if there's significance to this one?
(or here comes my wild theory )My vague idea as to the workings these gearboxes is that when in top gear if it (somehow) detects less than a pre-set amount of slip, it activates a lock-up device to give direct transmission. This must involve sensors and some sort of dog-clutch device which may have stuck in the engaged sense. Best of luck anyway, and hope the proper Pug Mechs on here can help you
