Possibly looking to buy a 5008 and I'll need a tow bar fitted. Reading various sites it seems that some 5008s have a socket behind the rear trim for a dedicated wiring kit and some don't... How can you tell? Age? Model?
I sent an email to Peugeot yesterday and they replied that they don't have a technical department and said I should contact a dealer - Not a promising start! Grateful for any advice. Last edited by pwatson; 01-29-2012 at 03:30 PM. |

Er, why not ask the dealer? They'll be taking big bucks off you and I'm sure theyd be happy to find the answer. However, if it's owt like it's cousin the 3008 then the interface unit to adapt the cars wiring for a towbar is an accessory. It just plugs into the loom and the cars ECU needs setting up on Planet to activate it.
Alternatively, any decent towbar fitter will be able to fit a generic unit to adapt the cars multiplex wiring to a towbar. Indeed, most dealers farm the work out to a towbar specialist anyway. Useless fact - as of this year towbar electrics are now tested as part of the MOT.

Hello PWatson,
Did you get the towbar fitted in the end? I am thinking about doing the same to our late 2010 5008 (sorry now I didn't get it done when buying) for a dogbox/bike rack. I am wondering whether the reversing warning indicator switches off properly when a generic connector unit rather than the Peugeot is installed, and whether or not a generic unit might void the warranty. Thanks Jim |

I did get a towbar fitted and went for the official Peugeot version so there could be no comeback if I need to claim on the warranty. The wiring kit was (I believe) plug and play and the 13 pin socket has a switch contact to determine if the trailer plug is in. When installed, plugging the trailer in didn't disable the parking sensors and there was no indication of indicator bulb failure. A return to the dealer and a bit of digging found the right parameters to set in the ECU to sort this. Cheers, Peter
