Default Ongoing cutting out problem

My wife has a 57 plate 407 2ltr hdi saloon. For some time it has been cutting out and when this happens the eps comes on followed by the depollution system faulty warning then the engine immediately starts to die. This can happen at any speed and has twice already happend whilst in the fast lane with rather hairy move to the hard shoulder. Once stopped if we sit for about 10 minutes then restart it and rev it up it generally goes away with all warning lights out until the next time it happens.
Our back street mechanic after consulting peugeot suggests every so often taking it out and burning the carbon off which apparently the dealer said that is all they would do. We do but this fault still happens.
Any help would be very gratefully received before we have an artic up our a**e the next time it happens.

Check out the Peugeot Planet owners map and get someone to do a proper diagnostic on it - this will tell you what fault there is. Even if nothing is showing, it can at least tell you the state of the DPF and if it does need a 'burn out'.

Diagnostic (Peugeot Planet) Map

See if anyone is close, post username back here, and hopefully will be able to help you out

I'm not sure how much you know about the DPF on this car, but if you aren't familiar with them, it might pay to have a search on here and do some background reading on them. If the car is mainly only used for short, or town, driving, you may well end up with problems.
