hello all
I have a 407 2.0 hdi , the engine managment came on saying anti pollution system fault , there is plenty of eloys fluid in the tank , some times on filling with diesel the fault would clear then come back within a few hundred miles , there was often a lack of power most noticable when coming out of a round about , twice when going along the engine red lined for no reason the third time the engine red lined it resulted with all the conrods bent .there was more oil in the sump than normal . the engine is being rebuilt , any ideas on what caused all this ? Some people have said the turbo went others have said the injectors opened or its the egr valve and the anti pollution filter . The local garage is at a loss to explain what happened. thanks Dave |

pollution fault is a generic term for "its fucked, but have no idea what"
could be timing belt...thats at a guess... you will need the peugeot planet (dealership/holder tool) hooked up for a full read out.

Why was there too much oil ?
Has fuel got in the sump and mixed with the oil ? |

407MAD - I was going to suggest the same. Im thinking fuel has got passed the rings and filled the sump causing a Hydraulic of the bottom end and thus bending said conrods. Cant really think of another way for it to get in there.
The Vauxhall engine fires Diesel into the DPF to clean it and if you turn it off mid way through it fires it back and Hydraulics the engine!

Or fuel pump seals ?
or has it been serviced and overfilled ? I would investigate the reason before putting the car back on the road !! Must have revved pretty high as you can red line one without problem as you do on an MOT test ! |

Hi all , Thanks for all the interest , i have been away working , the engine was serviced regularly and the engine oil was not over filled . If the injecters opened has anyone got any ideas as to why , this must be a common problem as i got a second hand bottom end from a peugeot breakers and they had alot of smashed 407 hdi engines all with a similar story but the breakers did not know the cause.

I've never heard of it beforeon a 2.0 HDI , seen it on an old escort where the petrol pump leaked into the engine and made the oil level rise.
I would have thought it wasn't the injectors or it would have been running very rough and it would have been throwing crap out the exhaust ,look at the oil and determine whether it is diesel that has made the oil level rise . If it is diesel then look at why,it could be coolant, that would make the level rise too. You say it red lined a couple of times obviously self fueling on its own oil , you should have stopped by stalling it . |

Could the red lining be a 'runaway' engine - turbo seal buggered - oil that normally lubes turbo gets into cylinders - cylinder burn oil ala diesel - engine red lines and explodes as there is no control over the quantity of fuel getting into the engine.
Turbo oil seal leak could also mean that diesel gets into ya oil. |
