I just opened the bonnet on my 205,000 mile 406 Hdi which runs really well, however I got a bit of a shock. The engine compartment was full of oil and the engine oil filler cap was missing, looks like it blew off somehow and some time ago I reckon (within 7 days).
Is this a common problem, how do I avoid it happening again, and how much is a new one does anyone know ? Just my luck for it to happen the day before towing our caravan for a week's holiday! Thanks for rapid answers ! Cheers Andy C |

Maybe just not replaced right after last oil check/change or maybe not put on at all , seen that happened before.

Thanks BettySwollocks
It's just a push fit - I reckon there's a lot of crankcase pressure because it's been pushing up the dipstick too but only about 1/2 an inch. Cheers Andy |

Clean all your breathers and replace any PCV filters, and do it sharpish before the pressure damages your crank seals.
