Hi all, the brakes on my 406 failed suddenly last week, luckily, i managed to avoid the car in front. Basically a week before it happened, i was going down a large hill and as i put my foot on the brakes the pedal slowly went to the floor, i lifted my foot and went for the pedal again, this time it felt fine. Pulled over, constantly pumped the brakes but at this point they felt fine and couldn`t fault it. So a week later, same thing, down a hill, no pedal, but this time the pedal goes to the floor, and the brakes hav`nt worked since.
I`ve checked briefly for leaks but can`t find anything suspect and all fluid has disappeared out of the reservoir?? Has anyone experienced this or similar? Could it be the master cylinder or the servo?? Any help at all is much appreciated!! Cheers, Ed. |

Does this car have rear drum brakes? (i assume so)
On my 306 (1995) i had this when a seal went on one of my rear brake pistons, quite common i think due to an offset piston design, happens when rear brake shoes get very worn down If it does have rear drums check these, see if theres fluid leaking from the opening at the bottom of drums Apart from that have a good look around for potential leaks and check all bleed screws are in place, pity its not dry out as this would have been a lot easier!!
