do all the other operations on the intrument cluster work, such as fuel level, engine temp and revs?

im thinking if they all work it will be down to the speed sensors. if they dont, a fuse, possibly a loose connection/damaged wire...or even a new cluster is needed.

but it is difficult to tell without more info. can you describe what works and doesnt work in as much detail as possible. and if it there was any symptoms before it dying.

thanks John I think everything else is working fine, the only problem I had was a fault code P0234 was present but changed a valve on the bulkhead and this seems to have cured that problem of loosing power.

W Reg? What year does it make the car?
Vehicle speed is taken from the pickup on the gearbox.
It has a 12v supply, an earth and a signal wire. Check the powersupply at the connector first. Id reckon its a problem with the pickup on box.
