Default Radio/stereo help Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Edit- after doing some reading would this car have a jbl amp and if so where would i locate it please - Edit

I hope somebody may be able to help I have got my self a peugeot 3.0 v6 auto
When i got the car the bloke said the radio didnt work so of course i said no probs and knocked him down £60 to get a new one.
After i got it home i removed the stereo which i dont think is the right one as it looks like the 2002 model (one with on/off dial on the front) and my car is a 2000.On investigation I found the fuse had gone in the back of the stereo and feeling a little chuffed i put a new fuse in and voila it worked(so i knew at least it was coded to the car).
The feeling chuffed soon came to an abrupt end when I turned up the volume to full i could barely hear it i have tried the knob on the front and also the stalk.
I tried the fade ect and still no matter what i do i can only get a low volume from the rear speakers. So i am at a loss as what to try next also there seems no power to the cd changer at the back.
I wondered if anybody had come across this problem in the past or is it just my rotten luck
Any help would be appreciated
Fyi my car in a 3.0 auto saloon year 2000
I dont want to get another aftermarket stereo if the problem could lie else where
Thanks for any suggestions in advance

Have you checked fuse F7 on here Peugeot 406 Fuses
Not sure if it is fitted to yours, but worth having a look

p.s. if that fuse box for that DAM number doesn't fit yours, go to http://www.peugeotlogic.com/#fuses and you can select the right number

thanks for the info I am think along the lines if there is very little audio then theres a good chance an amp is involved and if the fuse was blown in the radio maybe theres one in the amp too.I will check out the fuse in the morning if its not there then i will have to see if i can locate an amp if it exists anybody any ideas where to start looking
