131,000 Miles. Have recently purchased this car and whish I had not on the way home the Engine Diagnotic light came on the dash no codes. also sometimes tickover is faster than normal other times its fine. Sometines the speedomiter stops working car running fine. In the paperwork given with the car the Accelerator Potension Metre unit Was replaced last October. My friend got a reader and the code we have now is Accelerator engine speed sensor B. Aso we get a message saying brake fluid low in fact its full to the brim. I replaced a 19 year old Audi A6 for this car and really really regretting what I have done. Is this car going to be a money pot.

I read something the other day that if the eml light comes on but with no codes, then to check the turbo hoses are on tight
In the thread I was reading, the guy noticed one of the clips loose, tightened up, but upon double checking a couple of days later the clip was loose again i.e was faulty He said he bought some 40-60mm clips from Halfrauds at £3 for a pack of ten, and replaced the clip, and had no problems with the light again. He said this was accompanied with a little loss of oomph As you've only just got the car, maybe you ain't going to notice whether it's down on power or not As for the speedo playing up, this is a common fault, and is caused by dry solder joints on the board If you're handy with a soldering iron, then presto, job sorted Had no experience with the TPS so can't help there, but there is always a chance it's faulty - you say it was replaced, but was that for a new one or a second hand one ( new one could be faulty also, there's always that chance ) Brake fluid, no experience on this also, but if the fluid is full, then I'd say sensor, but don't quote me As for the car being a money pit Hey, there is always the risk with any car, but my own personal experience, is I replace cars every 3 years - I've now had my 406 for five years, it's never broken down of it's own fault ( ran it out of fuel 3 times pushing it a little too far to next fuel station, but can't blame the car for that )Apart from consumable items I did the rear brakes 5 years ago, and just redone them couple of weeks ago Bottom pulley - known item Cambelt, pulley, tensioners - gotta do that when required 2 rear hubs - wheel bearings can't be bought on their own Front discs and pads 2 front droplinks 1 rear horizontal droplink springs all round I have spent a lot more money on the car but that's been to improve it (1999 D8 HDi110 GLX) i.e (leather colour coded bump strips rear spoiler D9 air vents D9 hand brake button D9 centre console Chrome dash rings Strut brace Silver painted dash Silver painted door handles Coupe leather steering wheel Ashwood ash tray Ashwood dash trim Ashwood door trim Clear side repeaters Powerflow eggsauce from a V6 coupe, and decat'd All new stalks - were going cheap on the bay (relatively )Colour coded boot badge and i'm currently wiring up the trip computer But that's been my choice to do so, as it's such a good car As a professional driver, I want something that's dead comfy It's a car you can drive 200miles in and get out still feeling fine My advice perservere, you have a couple of niggles, work through them, and fingers crossed it will serve you well Last edited by plod; 05-07-2011 at 09:59 AM. |
