Default Peugeot 406 HDI 2.2 erratic starting problem

406 2.2 HDI erratic starting problem.
The car has let me down 3 times in the last month. Car starts first time every morning to go to work and also fires first time 9 hours later when I leave work. The common denominator on each occassion has been when I have stopped off at a supermarket for food on the way home from work just for 20 minutes. The engine turns but does not fire. After waiting for around 30 mins, the car does eventually start again. I have had the rear passenger seat out and checked the fuel pump and that is all working fine. I have recently had my cam belt changed at 76k and the problem seems to have started since this. Apart from that car runs fine. I have been told from the guy who services my car that he cannot do much until the car does it again for him to give a diagnosis. I am wondering if it is a fuel sender relay that is causing an erratic fault. The car is used every day and has only let me down 3 times so far,but it is something I obviously want to get rectified a.s.ap . If anyone has any ideas please help. I would be vey grateful

Sorry arnie...still not got it fixed...it happened again today...again ,it was after i had stopped only for a few minutes. really frustrating. when key was turned the dials sprung round to the right to indicate i had 3/4 of a tank and i also heard the fuel pump. must be a fuel pump fault surely. if anyone has any ideas please let me know your thoughts.thanks tim

i used to have this problem, i got told to try NOT locking the car when you stop for a few minutes. the immobiliser started giving me problems but if i didnt lock the car i had no problems. try locking and unlocking the car a couple of times then try starting it, hope this helps you.

thankyou collyflower cheese. I will try this. however it will be unwise to leave your car unlocked in a supermarket carpark in castleford or pontefract...its a godforsaken place to live. do you think if i locked my car with the key.would that still activate the immoballiser? thanks tim. any ideas on what could be wrong with the immobaliser?

i have had fault codes cleared. the one i think is relevent to this is code P0340 CAMSHAFT SENSOR

I have got the part from Andrew Page and a garage in York fitted it for me.
As yet I have had no further problems

Hope this helps
