Hi everybody, where to start !!!!.................
Last saturday driving home mil came on and car cut out, left it for a couple of secs and it fired straight up, (lamp still on) drove for about 5 mins cut out again.Eventually got home after another 5 or 6 cut outs. Car will not rev above 2800rpm, will tickover outside my house for hours, when driven up the road cuts out after about 300yds, (re starts every time) when turned off on the key engine still runs on long enough for me to remove the key shut the door and lock it manually? Next to it in my driveway I have an identical 90bhp model of the same year, I have swapped the in tank fuel pump, the relay next to the ECU on the O/S of the engine bay and the 90 still goes perfectly, the faults on the 110 remain unchanged. Sorry to bore you all with such a long rambling, but I wanted to be exact with the fault. On a different note. My 90bhp model is a 2001 car, it has 453821 miles on the clock YES 450000 miles! It is run on chip fat/bio fuel/regular diesel/poor diesel/red by accident/unleaded by accident. With all the crap that has gone in the tank and through the engine, the miles it shows, it drives perfectly........I therefore am slightly confused by people saying "oh these cars are really funny about fuel they need a good quality diesel at all times" ????? Quite clearly not the case :-) Any help with my faults would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Phil |

You need to eliminate guesswork when trying to diagnose faults on these more-complex engine management systems. First thing to do is get the fault codes read, by a mechanic or garage with a diagnostic fault reader. That will show what faults are stored in the ECU, and point in the direction of the problem area. Then you know where to start.

Hi mate!
I had the same problem like you. I wend to a good mecanic in London, and after a quick diagnostic (wich costed me 40 quid) he told me that the problem is the high pressure valve. You can find it on the fuel pump. It it attached with three screws on in. To make it cheaper you can get the valve from a breack yard from any hdi car (peugeot or citroen). It costed me £5 ps: Probably the mecanics will hate me now

Zraresg, do you mean the pressure regulator, held on with 2 screws on the back of the pump, and has a 3-pin wiring connector ?

Yeah pressure regulators are known for jamming on higher mileage 406's. Happened to me. It could also be your fuel rail pressure sensor. Try driving the car with the fuel rail pressure sensor disconnected ( not too far ) its a red plug on the underneath of the fuel rail.
The regulators usually only need a good clean with a wire brush and some carb cleaner then re insert. Let us know how you get on. If you get codes read i can almost guarantee P1112 will be there. |
