Default dripping oil somewhere

Yes I have looked...Managed to get the car started, it was the starter motor after all. I'm not telling my partner at work he said check the starter. Hasn't lifted a spanner in ten years, and without a pit or ramps they're not the easiest to get at on these cars. Had to get the front manifold off first. Now I have it started and its billowing smoke off the exhaust manifold. But again I can't see a thing on this engine. I took a pic with my camera and the back of the rear rocker cover had a damp but not excessively damp strip along the greater part of it. Noticed the covers seem to lift a bit at the gearbox side,is this just the moulding or have they warped over time. That side of the head is wet just below also under the oil filter housing at the front. the underside is well wet. Are these reknowned for leaking in particular places? I'm hoping it's not the back main oil seal cos I dont want to change a clutch and there's no point going in there without changing it while I'm there.
hope someone can help
Mike..again

edited 08/04/2012 I have decided it is crank oil seal at back and g-box is currently being removed
