I see a few 406 models for sale here in France with a 2.1td motor. Is that just a bigger displacement of the 1.9L, or is it derived from the old 2.5L as found in the 605 and Boxer utility vans?
I know about the 1.9td as it serves in 306, 406, 806, and Boxer. It's a very good motor but the ME gearbox often found with it is a bit weak and noisy. I'm hoping that the 2.1L is in the same family. Thanks!

Its the XUD11 engine. The 2.5 engine in the boxer is a DJ5 engine.

Googled that XUD10, got a few hits saying it's also 2.0L. I was mostly wondering if it's a bored out 1.9L or if it's related to the 2.5L instead. The 2.5L consumes a lot more fuel and is noisy.

Thanks for the update. Wiki has a page on it that's useful, 'tho much of it talks about running on SVO PSA XUD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I wonder if the Bosch IP on an XUD11 ATE could be turned up as easily as I did on the XUD9 TE in my Boxer passenger van? Turning up the fuel yielded a remarkable increase in torque while not increasing smoke much (if you keep your foot light until the turbo is spooled up).

Did you turn up the boost when you turned up the fuel?

No. I followed advice from one of our senior techs at Automobiles Dangel (where we make those lovable Parter/Expert/Boxer 4x4 conversions). He advised to only turn up the fuel. I turned it up in increments until the idle could no longer be set low enough, then backed it town a tad from there.
I see that the Lucas IP also afflicts some 2.1td in the 406. Having already had and heard negative experiences with the Lucas pump, I will avoid that I'm familiar with the Bosch pumps and have had no trouble with them yet.

I've been running a 2.1 td for five years. Just taken delivery (today) of a secondhand replacement engine, because the cam-belt let go and destroyed it.
That said, n ever had a smidge of bother with the Lucas injection system, or anything else for that matter. Cam-belt done less than 40k btw.
