Question 406 HDi Turbo Removal / Spares available

Hi

I have a W-reg 110bhp 406 GTX HDi Estate that has failed it's MOT disastrously and which I am planning to scrap. However, a friend of mine has some project in mind and asked if he could have the turbo. I said "sure!" then went outside to take it off... and having opened the bonnet, I can't even see the damn thing! Is it possible to remove the turbo while the engine is still in the car (I assume it must be... surely??) and if so, can anyone help me with some instructions, the more detailed the better as my mechanical knowledge is only basic. I do have ramps, so can get to the underside if (as I suspect) the turbo has to be removed from underneath.

Also, as the car is about to be scrapped, if anyone wants any parts and is willing to come to the Southampton area to get them, please let me know. I'm planning to keep the tyres (as they are the same size as the ones on the Skoda Octavia I bought today), the CD changer, and, obviously, the turbo, but all other parts can go, as long as the car can still be rolled onto a trailer (to get it to the scrap yard). Alternatively, the whole car can be bought for what the scrap yard would give me (I've been advised that would be around £140). The MOT cited N/S/F wishbone bushes gone, discs and pads shot, N/S/R caliper seized, and front exhaust pipe blowing, so those parts are useless, but it's had a new rear box last June and a new Rad last October, so there are some decent parts on it as well! Everything apart from the rear wiper works, the electric front seats still work perfectly despite my daughter thinking they were part of the entertainment system...! I work long hours, so I can't guarantee that I'll have time to remove parts wanted, but feel free to turn up, remove what you want, and leave. Car will be here for a week or two until I've found time to remove the turbo and get my mate round with his trailer!
