Default 406 Hdi - 216,000 miles, clutch judder

I have just clocked 216,000 miles and I am getting a little judder from the clutch setting off in first or reverse - it was last changed at 138K and I am easy on the clutch, no fast starts etc but I have towed our caravan with it for about 500-600 miles in last year. I am thinking it might be the rear engine mounting, seems to be a weak point based on web searches I have done. Any thoughts and is it possible to change the rear engine mount without removing the drive shaft per Haynes manual directions.

Also does anyone know how to disconnect the fuel pipes so I can change the fuel filter, I cant work out how to disconnect (little green indents in the connector must do something) - and also how do you reconnect the pipes successfully ?

Cheers

You don't say which HDi you have...?

The 90 is prone to a weak clutch - use an LuK one instead of Valeo or OE and that cures it.

On the 110 and 136 there is the dreaded DMF to consider, which can cause judders and the like.

Of course, it is reckoned that towing causes the wear rate on the drivetrain to more than double, so don't be surprised if it is the clutch saying au revoir.

Sorry Chopper it's a 406 Hdi 2000 90bhp.

So there's no chance it's the rear engine mount which people say is weak ?

Cheers

It could be.

On the 90 the first sign on clutch failure is usually slippage under load, so i don't think it's the clutch, unless one of the springs on the friction plate has broken up or something.
