406 diesel will not start...please help

Hi

I have a 406 diesel 2001 model and I have had a MIL come on, which reads code error P0906, can clear the code and the car is ok, but has come back on and now the car will not start. The code says it is gate select position circuit low....so am guessing earth or something, but havent a clue where to start....any thoughts...thanks

Automatic? HDI engine?

it is manual, not sue about hdi
